{"id":3374,"date":"2014-08-19T15:36:25","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T19:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.maximummidrange.com\/blog\/?p=3374"},"modified":"2014-08-19T15:36:25","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T19:36:25","slug":"what-is-entry-level-storage-and-why-do-we-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maximummidrange.com\/blog\/what-is-entry-level-storage-and-why-do-we-care\/3374","title":{"rendered":"What Is Entry-Level Storage and Why Do We Care?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is Entry-Level Storage and why are we asking this question?<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Entry-Level Storage?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, August 15<sup>th<\/sup>, IDC issued a press release with the title \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.idc.com\/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS25041114\">Worldwide Personal &amp; Entry Level Storage Market Sees Moderate Shipment Growth in the Second Quarter of 2014<\/a>\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An interesting statistic in the report that applies to our market was this:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe entry-level market continued to see strong growth in the higher bay devices (5, 6, 8, and 12 bays), which saw units shipped grow by 22.6% year over year.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The IDC post clarifies in its Notes section that: \u201c<em>IDC defines [\u2026] Entry-Level Storage as having 3-12 bays.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do we care about the definition?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 12 bay enclosures are where we are seeing the most growth here at Maximum Midrange. An example of that would be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maximummidrange.com\/2072-L2C.html\">Storwize 3700 2072-L2C Dual Control Enclosure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 3700 hits the bigger end of what entry-level storage is, as it offers a minimum of 12 bays and a maximum of 24 bays (per enclosure).<\/p>\n<p>The beauty of it is that even though this system pushes the upper size limit of entry-level storage, it easily fits into the limit budget-wise as refurbished systems become available.<\/p>\n<p>This allows the end-user to often get twice the storage density at the same price as a new system.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s like <em>entry-level x 2<\/em> at original budget costs.<\/p>\n<p>This applies to all of the storage systems we offer: EMC, NetApp, IBM, HP, Exagrid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The IDC report shows the 22.6% increase in 5-12 bay storage sales.
