HPE MSA 2040 SAN Storage<\/h1>\n

What is it?<\/strong>
\nThe HPE MSA 2040 is an Energy Star Certified entry level storage array meant to meet the needs of small to medium business.<\/p>\n

Why do I need it?<\/strong>
\n– More storage!
\n– If you are like most, your storage is first saved in-house and then moved off to cloud or other external backups.
\nThis keeps a copy of everything available in your office.
\n– Affordable SSD support (finally)<\/p>\n

HPE MSA 2040 SAN Storage with 24 900GB Drives<\/p><\/div>\n

What are the cons?<\/strong>
\n– Because it’s entry level, the CPUs will hold back the raw speed of an SSD to a very minor extent<\/em>, but will not affect platter type storage.<\/p>\n

With that said, you can still expect about 85K IOPS in the real world, which is plenty fast for the SMB market.
\nIf it’s not enough headroom, the HP 3PAR 7200 All-Flash Starter kit (or the 7400 products) would be another option and Maximum Midrange can help with either of those.<\/p>\n

Is it compatible with my current gear?<\/strong>
\nThe HPE MSA 2040 is compatible with:
\n– HP ProLiant DL
\n– HP ProLiant ML
\n– HP c-Class Blade Servers
\n– Integrity servers
\n– Intel Itanium architecture (IA64)
\n– Oracle, Microsoft and SAP environments
\n– VMware and Hyper-V

Install Tips:<\/strong>
\n– The 2040 series includes Snapshot and Volume Copy, so that does not need to be installed separately
\n– For iSCSI functionality, the firmware needs to be at GL101 or later.
\n– The maximum number of MSA 2040 LFF drive enclosures or D2700 SFF drive enclosures is 7 of each or a mix of both up to 7.
\n– Disk groups spanned across the enclosures support RAID levels 1, 5, 6, 10. Linear Vdisks support RAID levels 0, 1, 3, 5, 6, 10, 50.
\n– The maximum logical unit number or LUN is 140 TB
\n– The MSA 2040 and the D2700 disk enclosures can be hot-added to your current array<\/p>\n
