EMC VNX Hard Drive Comparison Spreadsheet
A quick summary of what VNX is:
The EMC VNX series brings their file-based and block-based storage hardware (EMC Cellera and CLARiiON) together into one product that can be managed with one simple GUI.
It was originally meant for Mid-Tier to Enterprise storage environments, but as items hit the refurbished market, availability of this hardware is opening up for everyone.
A VNX system is made up of the controller which can be either a “Storage Processor Enclosure (SPE)” or a “Disk Processor Enclosure (DPE)”
- The SPE does not have drive bays
- The DPE does have internal drive bays
- and, optionally, a “Disk Array Enclosures (DAE)” is used to expand storage.
Which brings us to the drives.
At least 70% of VNX configs are hybridized or a combination of Hard Drives and Solid State Drives.
We wanted to do a list of all the drives, but it’s almost unreadable in web page format.
So, we have to break it up into chunks.
Hard drives will come first, then SSDs.
Or if you would rather view the whole spreadsheet (for disk drives), you can see it on our Google Drive here:

(The SSD sheet is coming soon)
