“IBM CEO Ginny Rometty is instigating the biggest global re-org in the history of the corporation in a bid to carve out a clearer future in a cloudy world.
Multiple sources told us senior managers were this week informed about the changes that will see IBM try to shed the dusty hardware, software and services silo structure.
The main units will include Research, Sales & Delivery, Systems, Global Technology Services, Cloud, Watson, Security, Commerce, Analytics. Mobility is expected to overlay some divisions.”

This change is no real surprise, though, since revenue at IBM has been slipping.
Our first thought here was: Is going from the three “dusty” silos to 8-11 sparkling new ones such a good idea?
The gut reaction is “No. Probably not.”
Taking a look at HP’s numbers who went through a major restructuring not too long ago, dampens our hopes even further.
It’s easy to question and complain, and not so easy to offer solutions on redirecting these huge ships.
We are mainly blogging out loud on this topic because it affects our industry.
While IBM hardware isn’t going to disappear soon (we have you covered there) it is something to think about as we watch the mighty IBM struggle to find solutions for it’s slipping revenue.
