Maximum Midrange Computer Specialists has been on the books since 2007 (although, our specialists have been in the IT world far longer). Almost from the beginning, we have had more calls, website hits and emails on the 39R6520 battery than anything else.
The 39R6520 (https://www.maximummidrange.com/39R6520.html) cache battery has not only been one of our best selling batteries, but one of the fastest moving items in our inventory for years.
2015 changed that a bit, with the 69Y2926 (https://www.maximummidrange.com/69Y2926.html) and the FRU for that, the 69Y2927 (https://www.maximummidrange.com/69Y2927.html) proving to be very popular.
Why bother writing about it?
We have found from users of the blog that it just helps to have more info out there on things that are in demand.
What is the purpose of the 39R6520 and 69Y2926 cache batteries and cache batteries in general?
The controller that the battery is in caches its write data in its own RAM. That speeds things up, but if the power fails, then your OS thinks the data has been written (when it has not) leading to missing data or corruption.
The battery enables the system to finish the writing of the data from the RAM after power has failed.
A UPS battery backup system does the same thing, so this cache battery is insurance on top of that. We like to think of the cache battery as the first line of defense and the UPS second.
These 69Y2926 batteries are compatible with the:
– IBM SONAS Storage Controller 2
– DS3500
– DS3512
– DS3524
– EXP3524
– DS3700
and others. A phone call to 855-932-6627 works best to check full compatibility.
So, if you see something like this in your reports, it’s time for a new battery
